Description
Coiled wild grass with bramble binding.
Fragrant as a hayfield, this basket comes straight from the land, from fields and woods. It has beautiful textures in the natural materials and this basket is exceptionally tactile.
In high summer, I gather wild grasses from the corner of a favourite Sussex field. Dried and stored in the studio, I later coil the grass with split bramble into a vessel form, using a special tool, a bone fid. Coiling (lip work) is an ancient technique; a slow, methodical process. In the winter months I cut and process the bramble. I make offerings before cutting grass and bramble: a gesture of reciprocity.
