Sweet chestnut and willow bark. Natural cordage hanging loop made from willow bark.

A bark container has the look and feel of a hollow tree in your hands. In these bark pods I celebrate the pure barky-ness of the material with all its beautiful textures, subtle colourations and tactile qualities. It is lightweight but robust.

In spring I cut sweet chestnut and willow sustainably in Sussex woodland. The natural growth twists and variations in thickness mean the bark dries in unpredictable ways and sometimes distorts too much. This makes the successful ones even more precious and valued. I  make offerings before cutting bark: a gesture of reciprocity.
